I Made a Fabulous Flannel Shirt, Perfect for Transitioning the Seasons
Wow, I've got the best transitional make to share!!
I'm going to show you how to make a fab shirt and then how to style it 2 ways!!
This lovely flannel shirt is perfect for those days when the autumn calls. Great to wear over a camisole top and quick to remove when the sun peeps out, and brilliant for a cooler day layer under a cosy cardi!!
The pattern is the Fairfield button up and is actually designed for a mans shirt, but I love the classic styling and the crisp collar. You can check out the pattern here! > Fairfield Button-up Shirt PDF – Thread Theory I made mine up in a Ivory flannel from Minerva which you can grab here! > Minerva Core Range Heavy Cotton Flannel Fabric | 1196486 | Minerva
First things first, lets cut out the pieces and add some interfacing to the collar and cuffs. I love iron on interfacing, so simple it adds just enough stiffness to give a little extra strength and stiffness, just where its needed. You can check out some interfacing here > Prym Dressmakers Iron On Interfacing White | 1152470 | Minerva
Next were going to fold over and stitch the button and button hole placket and add some darts to the back of the shirt.
The next step is to stitch the two shirt fronts and the back to the yoke at the shoulder seams. Its coming together nicely now!!
Next lets add the sleeves, right sides together using lots of pins, lets ease that sleeve head in!
Wow so close to complete!
Pin and stitch all the way from the bottom of the shirt up passed the sleeve seam and down to the wrist!
Now, just the collar and the cuffs to add and were all ready to style it up!!
I absolutely love this outfit, I'm wearing some Navy Capri pants with a navy blue Camisole. With my lovely new shirt slipped over the top, its just keeping the chill off my bare arms and is the perfect outfit to take you from a summer day in town through to an evening out without getting chilly!!
And, once the autumn has arrived for real, how about this styling, I'm wearing some comfy linen trousers with my Fairfield shirt buttoned up keeping me super cosy, with a long line cardi over the top for a casual cosy look!!
I don't know which style I like best, possibly the Cami and Capri pants version, which is your fav??
Enjoyed the project?
