How to Style Cropped Pants

Spring is here, and it’s time for clothes to go a little lighter in color and cut. Nothing fits the bill better than cropped pants. Sometimes called capris, clam diggers or gaucho pants, depending on whether they are slim fit or wide leg, they come to about mid-calf.

I like to call them cropped because they are shorter than full-length pants. This gives them a breezy between-season feel because that’s neither too long and warm for summer or shorts that are more for the warmest summer months.

Don’t have any cropped pants in your wardrobe? Time to get shopping!

Here are some ideas for how to style cropped pants.

Cropped Pants with a Light Turtleneck and Ankle Booties

It’s still a little chilly in the spring, and the weather can turn rainy in an instant. For that reason, I keep wearing my ankle booties clear from fall through spring. Cropped pants are great with these booties because you can see the whole boot and they don’t get hung up on long pant legs. I usually choose lighter-colored ankle booties for spring, such as brown, tan, cream or white. A light turtleneck, such as a mock neck or tissue turtleneck in a jersey or t-shirt weight fabric in a bright color is perfect for spring ad looks great with cropped pants.

Cropped Pants with Jean Jacket and Sneakers

Short pants are great for kicking around in and you’ll have a little spring in your step when the weather starts to warm up. Pair them with your favorite kicks, a spring-themed floral top and a light jean jacket and you’re ready for a day on the town and when it cools down at night.

Cropped Pants with a Sheer Top and Flats

Sheer tops are everywhere for spring. These gauzy flowy blouses add a touch of feminine drama to your outfit and look great blowing in the spring breezes. It can also dress up your cropped pants for a night out. I’ve seen sheer tops worn with just a black bralette underneath, but I feel a little more comfortable with a tank top. Practical flats give the look that classic Audrey Hepburn French girl style, and you can trade them for heels if you’re taking your flowing top out dancing later on.

Now that you know how to wear cropped pants, which one will you try?
