Carrie Bradshaw Flower Top Tutorial
If the iconic series Sex in the City was based in 2020, it would be all about Carrie Bradshaw’s blog. From her style to her wisdoms, there are so many reasons you would hit subscribe. I am constantly in awe of her timeless style and I am always finding ways to bring it into my own closet.
One look I’m beyond obsessed with this photo of Carrie in Paris (you know the one) and needed to recreate her striped flower top. In this Carrie Bradshaw flower top tutorial, you’ll find how to recreate yours as well!

How to create A Carrie Bradshaw Flower Shirt
Materials
- Striped shirt
- 5 yards of striped 3-4″ thick ribbon
- Sewing machine or needle and thread
- fabric glue
Instructions
Step one: Using a sewing machine, bast stitch with a 1/2″ seam allowance on the bottom of the ribbon. Sew along the entire 5 yards of ribbon. If you don’t have a sewing machine, don’t fret. This step can also be completed by hand.
Step two: Pull the thread gently at one end. This will create a ruffle along in the ribbon. Keep pulling the ripple of the ribbon until there is a ruffle throughout the entire strip.
Step three: Once you have your ruffle created, get your shirt ready. Place the shirt on a flat surface. Put a cardboard in the shirt to both flatten the shirt and prevent the glue from seeping through the first layer of the shirt.
Step four: Starting in the middle of the shirt, use fabric glue the ruffle in a circular motion to the shirt. it might take several seconds for the glue to become tacky!
and Viola ! you are Carrie in Paris
My favorite sewing snack is these Parisian cookies from Michel Et Austin I recently collaborated with them on instagram and have been obsessed ever since. They are so delicious and buttery, definitely the recharge I need mid-project. They sell them in Hannaford Stores now too if you are local to New England.
Enjoyed the project?

Kudos to you! How did you know how to do this. I mean it is so perfect!❤️🧵🪡
What a great idea! I’m with the ladies who like your flower better! It’s more polished looking. I have a striped boat neck top with 3/4 sleeves. It has an embroidered name across the front, I am wondering (hoping) I can make a flower to cover the writing. Thanks for the idea!!
