I really loved the unique look of cropped ponchos but couldn't find one in a fabric I really liked for fall. Most of the cute ones were around $50 and for thin fabric, I felt that was too much for what appeared to be easy construction.

I was right, this project was quick and easy for the most part and I was able to pick out my own colors. At 5'2 cropped items never hit me where they are supposed to so doing it myself gave me the ability to have it drape exactly where I wanted it to.

A quick trip to Joann fabrics and I found the winner. Gray, orange, ivory, and black plaid. The fabric was honestly more than I wanted to spend, even with my 40% off coupon it was $27 for 1.5 yards, but I really liked the quality and rich colors.

After measuring how long I wanted the front, I laid the fabric on the table exactly the way it would be worn, folding the top edge down to around 17"

in the center of the top fold, I cut a neck hole slit about 12" long. I did add a slight curve to the front of the neck slit after the initial cut so it wouldn't choke me but forgot to take a photo of that step.

To prevent fraying and to have more of a finished edge, I pinned double-fold bias tape around all of the raw edges. It took almost 3 packages since the back was wide and long. This step took the longest, everything else was very quick. With the right fabric, you wouldn't even need to do this step.

After pinning the edges it was a quick run through the machine. A very simple project. It took almost an hour and a half, but now that I know what I am doing with it the next time will go faster.

No need to create armholes, the natural draping of the fabric and it being cropped makes it easy to move about.

Here, with the arms outstretched you can see the fold.

The back drapes nicely as well

With the bias tape, the project came in under $40. I could have made it for half of that if I would have went with a flannel or thinner fabric, but I love this one for fall. I will certainly make more of them in the future.

Have a wonderful and blessed day!
