Coconut oil and Epsom salt body scrub ingredients

1. Get your ingredients

Find the exact ingredients you’ll need from the materials list above. Every component that I handpicked serves a nurturing function for your skin!

  • Epsom salts are a great way to exfoliate dead skin cells.
  • Coconut oil nourishes the skin and helps kill bacteria.
  • Jojoba oil moisturizes the skin, softens cuticles, and can relieve sunburns.

Once you have all your ingredients, you can go ahead and make the DIY body scrub recipe.

2. Make the body scrub

First, add ½ cup of coconut oil into your clean mixing bowl.

Next, add 1 cup of Epsom salts. This is the main ingredient in this homemade body scrub and is the exfoliating agent that will aid in getting rid of dead skin cells.

This will also contribute towards a more youthful glow and leave your skin feeling super soft.

Melting the coconut oil

3. Melt the coconut oil

Next, pop your bowl in the microwave for 30 seconds. Your coconut oil should melt.

4. Add more Epsom salts

Add one more cup of salt for a thicker scrub. The texture of the DIY body scrub should not be smooth; you want it to feel chunky and rough so that it can really get all the dead cells off your body.

Mixing the ingredients together

Mix with your spoon and separate any lumps.

5. Add the remaining ingredients

Now, add a few drops of jojoba oil. The measurement should be the equivalent of 1 tablespoon.

Adding peppermint oil to the DIY body scrub

Next, add 3 drops of peppermint oil or any other essential oil of your choice.

Tip: If you are prone to sensitive skin, do not add peppermint oil as it can irritate the skin.

Adding lemon juice to the DIY body scrub

Add one tablespoon of freshly squeezed lemon. Lemon is packed with vitamin C, an antioxidant that reduces skin damage.

Adding rose petals to the DIY body scrub

Lastly, add a bunch of rose petals. I think it adds a beautiful natural fragrance to the DIY body scrub. This step is optional, though.

6. Transfer to a container

Now, add the homemade body scrub into a clean container or jar.

Tip: Do not put water into the jar, as it will cause mold over time.

I like storing my scrub in the fridge as it preserves the contents for much longer. Just make sure you take it out of the fridge an hour before usage as coconut oil does harden.

This DIY body scrub will probably last you a month. If you want something that lasts longer, feel free to double-up on the ingredients.

Also, don’t forget to cleanse first before using this body scrub. It’s so moisturizing you probably won’t need to apply cream after.
