Today’s DIY is a DIY scalp treatment where we show you how you can detox your scalp at home.

This at-home scalp treatment is essential if you style your hair, as styling can create a buildup of product and leave your hair really dry and gross. Hot weather can also affect our scalp too, with sun damage and sweat.

The best thing about this detox is that it’s so easy to make and use - there are only a few ingredients you need to mix and apply to your scalp! It’s as easy as that. Let’s get started.

Tools and materials:

  • Water
  • Apple cider vinegar
  • Aloe vera gel
  • Bentonite clay
  • Wooden or plastic spoon
Adding apple cider vinegar to water

1. Add ¼ cup of apple cider vinegar to 1 cup of water

Apple cider vinegar is rich in vitamins and minerals vital to the health and strength of your hair, such as vitamin C and B.

Additionally, this common household ingredient contains alpha-hydroxy acids (AHAs) which can help exfoliate your scalp and skin.

Apple cider vinegar is also said to be anti-inflammatory and can aid in reducing dandruff.

2. Add ½ cup of aloe vera gel to the mixture

Aloe vera does everything and there’s no wonder why it’s in this mask.

The gel contains many active ingredients and materials that strengthen hair, strips non-naturally occurring oils, relieves itchy and flaky scalp, and can even protect your hair from UV damage that can dull the shine in your hair.

3. Add ½ cup of bentonite clay to the mixture

Bentonite clay adds moisture to hydrate your hair while simultaneously removing toxins in your scalp - making it the key ingredient in this detox.

Not only can it remove buildup, but it can also break down oils. This clay is known for bouncing back even the most lifeless curls.

4. Mix

Using metal with bentonite clay can deactivate all of the properties within the clay, so make sure you’re only using a plastic or wooden spoon while mixing.

5. Apply the mixture thoroughly to your scalp

Make sure to really work it in; we recommend working in sections to make sure you’re coating your entire scalp. Leave on for 20 minutes and then rinse it off.
