I was very excited to be part of the Link Party group that would help to launch the next series of new patterns from Fibre Mood.

As soon as I saw the choices for patterns, Augusta went straight to the top of my list. There is nothing better then a shirt dress for summer.

The Augusta has a couple of extra features that set it apart from other shirt dress patterns. The placket closure simplifies the front and adds that extra bit of chic finish to the overall look. I included the pic above because you get a sneak peek at the construction and design. I had never seen a double pocket before and I thought it would be complicated. It wasn't at all. I actually couldn't believe how simple the construction was. The pattern instructions and illustrations for the Augusta, as all Fibre Mood patterns are, are easy to follow and sew along with.

I love the gathered bodice along the yoke. It adds interest and great lines to an otherwise minimalist design. It's more gather than usual which adds to the overall look in a really pleasing way. Once you have the shirt gathered and attached to the yoke you attach the collar and collar stand. What isn't to live about a collar that you can pop up and style.

The side pockets are always a welcome addition. As the Augusta is designed to be an oversized fit I sized down through the hips by two sizes, reducing the cut from under the arm down through to the hemline. To ensure that I got the fit that I wanted, I basted the side seams once I had attached the collar to check the fit. When I was happy with the side seam sizing I pulled out the basting and added the side seam pockets. This is a technique that I use often. It pays off to take that extra step to ensure you are really happy with the fit.

The sleeves for the Augusta are cut into the bodice. They have a lovely cuff that finishes it off beautifully. The other really nice detail is the small rolled hem and the shirt tail hemline shape.

Augusta is a great addition to your summer wardrobe. It is easy to wear and can be styled in so many ways. I choose this lovely crisp cotton poplin from Minerva for my dress. It is a core range light weight 100% cotton poplin, perfect for summer dress making. It is an OEKO-TEX that comes in over 35 different colours I love this neutral colour. It makes a great foundation piece for countless styling options. I'm wearing it here with sneakers and a baseball hat, a perfect combination for running errands. It will look fantastic with sandals or flat slides as well for a dinner out. I think that it this dress will transition beautifully into fall worn with tights and boots.

There are so many options for fabric choices and styling with the Augusta. After all....
