Hair Growth Hack: How to Get Long and Super Healthy Hair
I’m all about growing long, healthy, natural hair. Today, I’m going to be sharing with you my cornrow wash day routine for extreme hair growth.
I’m going to be using rice water on my hair and will show you how to make it. If you love hair growth hacks, you’ve come to the right place!
Tools and materials:
- Rice
- Measuring spoons
- Pot
- Jar
- Pomelo
- Peeler
- Spray bottle
- Plastic bag
- Hair steamer
- Shampoo
- Deep-conditioner
- Rosemary oil
- Pipette
1. Make the rice water
Place one and a half cups of plain rice in a pot and rinse it. Then transfer the rice to a large jar and cover it with eight and a half cups of warm water.
Peel a pomelo (or a grapefruit if you can’t get hold of one) and place the peel inside. Store the jar in a dark cupboard for six weeks.

2. Transfer into a spray bottle
After six weeks, remove the grapefruit peel.
Mix the water up, and it will turn as white as milk. Transfer the rice water only into a spray bottle.
3. Spray onto your scalp
Spray the rice water on your scalp and cornrows.
Keep spraying until it’s absorbed into your hair and your hair is saturated. Remember to spray the back of the hair under the braids too.
4. Massage it in
Once everything is fully absorbed, give yourself a scalp massage.
Rice water is beneficial for your scalp and also your hair shaft, so you want to make sure you get the maximum benefits. A scalp massage is always the way to do that.
It stimulates your scalp and sends blood flow to that area which sends oxygen and promotes hair growth.
5. Apply heat to hair
Cover your hair with a plastic bag or a plastic cap. Then go under the heat for 20 minutes.
6. Rinse out the rice water
Make sure to rinse out every single bit of rice water. This makes your hair extremely saturated before you get to the shampoo step.
7. Apply shampoo
Now apply some shampoo all over your hair. I did two washes of shampoo to make sure my hair was completely clean.
If your hair doesn't have oils on and build up on it, it will easily absorb the product, and you’ll enjoy those benefits more. Proceed to thoroughly rinse the shampoo out.
I have found personally that rice water works best on my hair before I use shampoo, but you can feel free to experiment and try using it after your shampoo or after a deep conditioner.
Just make sure you don’t leave it in. It doesn't have that much protein to the point where it can make your hair brittle, but it does have starch, and that can make your hair brittle.
8. Apply deep conditioner
Next, apply a deep, leave-in conditioner.
9. Go under heat
Then put a plastic bag over your head and go under the heat for 30 minutes and then leave it to air dry.
10. Apply rosemary oil
My hair is about 85% dry which is the perfect time to add rosemary oil to it. Use a pipette to help you apply the oil all over your scalp and your hairline.
Rosemary oil has so many amazing benefits, and it's one of the only natural products that can compete with professional products when it comes to boosting hair growth.
Finish up by massaging the oil into your hair. Leave your hair to dry, and you are finished!
