What do you need to make a Pencil Tote Bag?

How to create a Canvas Book Bag with a Pencil Design?

STEP ONE

To begin the Easy Pencil Book Bag, gather all supplies. Download, print, and cut out the PENCIL PATTERNS HERE. Select the colors and patterns of your cotton calico fabric. I love to use fat quarters for simple projects like this book bag.

STEP TWO

Unfold and iron all of your cotton fabrics. Once the fabric is attached to the Fabric Fuse™ PeelnStick Adhesive Sheets you cannot remove the wrinkles.

STEP THREE

The shaft of the pencil is the same size as two of the 4.25″ by 5″ Fabric Fuse™ PeelnStick Adhesive Sheets added end to end to create a 4.25″ by 10″ rectangle. Peel the backer paper from the adhesive and place the sticky side down on the back of the fabric. Repeat with the second sheet of adhesive. Trim away any excess fabric with scissors.

STEP FOUR

Trace the remaining patterns onto additional Fabric Fuse™ PeelnStick Adhesive Sheets with the MONO Twin Permanent Marker. Roughly cut out each traced shape from the adhesive sheets. Peel the backer paper from the sheet and apply each shape, sticky side down, to the reverse side of the fabrics selected.

Cut out each shape with scissors.

STEP FIVE

Layout the fabric pattern pieces on the tote bag until you are pleased with the composition. Shift and place the pattern pieces because you will not be able to peel them back up if they get misplaced. HeatnBond™ Fabric Fuse PeelnStick Adhesive Sheets from Therm-O-Web® is a permanent fabric adhesive, which after 48 hours can be laundered without coming loose.

STEP SIX

Starting with the eraser, peel the second backer paper away from the fabric and carefully attach it to the tote bag. Place the pencil shaft next, then add the grey pencil cuff, making sure to overlap the yellow and pink fabrics. Attach the black pencil lead to the tan pencil point, and then attach it to the top of the pencil, overlapping the yellow fabric. Rub the fabric pieces with your hand to get good adhesion.

STEP SEVEN

Snip and rip several lengths of the yellow, black, grey, and pink fabrics into strips. Stack together and tie onto the handle of the tote back with an additional strip of fabric. This creates a fun scrappy bow. To finish, trim any long ends with scissors.

Quick and Easy Pencil Book Bag

The perfect useful gift for back-to-school time or teacher appreciation, this Easy No-Sew Pencil Tote Bag is quick and easy to make with HeatnBond™ Fabric Fuse PeelnStick Adhesive Sheets from Therm-O-Web®. Each package contains 5 Sheets that are 4.25 inches x 5 inches each. This adhesive is machine washable and dryable. It is a permanent, press-on, double-sided adhesive that is ideal for scout patches and badges. Fabric Fuse creates a very strong, instant bond, and is proudly made in the USA.
