This DIY homemade herbal shampoo recipe is a great choice for those looking for a more natural hair care alternative.

You can choose to make this clarifying shampoo DIY completely from scratch, or start with a natural base soap for a simpler recipe.

The tea mixture is completely customizable, but the herbs I’ve included are great for most hair types.

Rosemary: helps stimulate hair growth.

Nettle: nourishes the hair and stimulates remineralization as it is rich in sulfur and silica that strengthen the hair shaft.

Chamomile: brightens hair naturally over time. It’s also a great anti-itch remedy for the scalp as it helps combat dandruff. It also boosts hair shine and growth.

Calendula: a great all-around herb for nourishing the scalp, naturally conditioning and preventing dry skin. It stimulates hair follicles and promotes the growth of strong, thick and silky hair.

Steeping tea mixture

3. Steep

Once the water has reached the boiling point, remove the saucepan from the heat source and allow it to steep, covered, until the mixture reaches room temperature.

4. Strain

Strain out the tea using a fine mesh sieve or nut milk bag. You can compost the herbs if you’d like!

7. Combine all components

In a large, glass pump bottle, add the infused coconut milk, the herbal tea that you prepared, ½ cup liquid castile soap and ½ teaspoon argan or jojoba oil.

Argan oil or Jojoba oil are perfect for conditioning hair without leaving it oily. Close the bottle and shake to combine.

Combining mixtures

Store your DIY, all-natural, clarifying shampoo in an air-tight container for up to one month in the fridge.

It may thicken, so simply let it warm up in the hot water of the shower before each use.

Shake the bottle well as the ingredients can separate.
