Soaking dirty brushes

Firstly, soak the dirty brushes in a mug of water.

Washing makeup brushes with soap

How to wash brushes with soap

To wash your brushes using a bar of soap, make sure to use a gentle soap, and then take the brush and just swirl it around the soap.

Lather brush with soap

Then lather the soap up on your palms and brush your palms with the brush. Once done, give the brush a quick rinse. If you feel that your brush is still dirty then you can go ahead and repeat the process all over again.

I like to do circular motions, both clockwise and anti-clockwise, just make sure to use very gentle motions otherwise you can damage your brushes.

When you’re happy that the brush is clean, run it under running tap water, occasionally rubbing it on your hands so as to make sure that it has totally stopped lathering. If there's lather in your brush that it means there is still more soap left and that can be very harmful to the bristles and lead to them shedding.

Washing makeup brush with shampoo

To wash your brushes using shampoo, make sure to use mild shampoo. Use the same circular clockwise and anti-clockwise movement to create some lather and then rinse the brush under clean running water.

Soaking makeup brush

Whether you’re using soap or shampoo, I highly recommend giving your brushes a final rinse by soaking them inside a cup of clean water and then squeezing all the water out of the bristles. Make sure not to pull or tug at the bristles - be very very gentle.

Tapping off excess water

Then tap off the excess water. Doing this can help your brushes drive by about twenty to thirty percent. Next, take a clean towel or paper towel and give your brushes a good swirl.

Doing this helps soak up more excess water. At this stage, your brushes are already about 60 to 70 percent dry.

Leaving makeup brushes to dry

After that, if you have time on your hands then you can place them flat on a table and leave them to finish drying at a 360-degree angle.

Blow drying makeup brush

If you don't have time and you need to use your brushes immediately then I would suggest using a blow dryer.

Make sure to keep your blow dryer at medium heat because if it's too hot then that might damage your bristles. Also, when you're blow-drying it, hold the dryer in the direction of the hair growth so as to keep the shape of the brushes intact.
