Introducing the newest pattern from Pattern Scout: The Nellie Jogger and Shorts.

Today I’m sharing my tester for the new pattern from Pattern Scout. I am beyond in love with this pattern. It’s so versatile and comfortable; the two biggest characteristics I need when I make clothes. Oh and did I mention that it’s absolutely fabulous and I will probably have 20 more made before Winter even hits? Ok that’s an exaggeration, make that 10!

So let’s break it down. Nellie is a two for one pattern. You’ve got the shorts in Version B and the jogger style (that I made) in Version A. Nellie is a high rise, slim, athletic style pant/short with a zip fly, elasticated back and super fly patch pockets. The cuff on version A is also elasticated. With all these characteristics combined, even my husband was demanding I make him a pair once I was done.

Lately, with the change in weather to slightly cooler days, I’ve been slowly nestling back into my street wear. I know a lot of you know I’m bright and colourful but did you know I’m a city kid? Sydney City is my home so when I’m not in bright dresses, I’m in bright tshirts, jumpers, hoodies, joggers and jeans. That’s my usual uniform and I’ve never really shared it much until lately because I thought it wasn’t that interesting since it was just my day-to-day wear.

So these joggers were right up my alley and of course I had to put my little spin on it with some colour blocking neutrals. I used navy linen (from a garage sale) and ochre cotton twill (from A Thrifty Notion) remnant to make this hot number. Honestly, I wish I had more to make another for when these die from me wearing them out! I loved playing with the pocket colours which added that extra depth to the colour blocked look. In terms of sizing I made a size 26 graded to a 20 from the hips down, with no other structural changes. I did alter the recommended size for the elastic in the back and cuffs, but you’re instructed to check that fit when you’re sewing. Also, this was my first zip fly and can I just say these instructions were amazing and I got it on the first go. So I highly recommend this for someone who’s in a similar boat to me and looking to take their pant sewing to the next level.

I love these so much, if I haven’t said that enough. I truly believe this may be my best make up till this point. I’m riding the high of making amazingly, tailored pants for myself and I never want to come down. So head on over to Pattern Scout and check out the hype. Also, don’t forget to check out the psnelliejoggers and psnellieshorts hashtag to check out what other brilliant makers did with theirs!
