If you've never made any type of sugar scrub that uses a melt and pour soap base before, or any type of sugar scrub bars before, here are some answers to questions you may have.

Can I use Olive Oil Instead of Coconut Oil?

Absolutely! Olive oil is a great hydrating oil! Another oil you could use is grapeseed oil.

Do These Last a Long Time?

If they are stored properly in an air-tight container, they should last up to three months.

Do These Work as an Exfoliator?

Yes, they really do.

How Do You Get Soap Out of a Silicone Mold?

After you have let it set in the mold for two hours and the soap still hasn't hardened, let it set for a little bit more.

If that didn't work, then turn the mold over and run warm water over the back and apply gentle pressure.

Is There a Special Type of Sugar to Look for?

Plain old white granulated sugar in the baking aisle of your grocery store is all you need. Generic is fine too.

Step 1: On a cutting board, cut your melt and pour soap base into 1" x 1" cubes.

Step 2: Place 2 of the cubes into a microwave safe container and melt them in the microwave.

When melting the cubes, you will melt them on high for 10 seconds. Remove the cup, stir and place back into the microwave. Then heat again for 10 seconds, stir and put back in. Then if it still needs to be melted further, repeat for another 10 seconds. The thing to remember is that you do not want to overheat this. Once this is overheated, it can't be saved.

Step 3: Add in the sugar and stir until the ingredients are combined.

Step 4: Add in the olive oil and stir everything together until thoroughly combined.

Step 5: Place the cup back into the microwave for additional 10 seconds to warm the ingredients back up.

Step 6: Add in the Orange Mica Powder, the Sweet Orange Essential Oil and the Peppermint Essential Oil and then stir to combine.

Step 7: Pour the ingredients carefully into the mold.

Step 8: Let the soap set for at least two hours. Once the soap has completely hardened, remove from the mold.

Ingredients

  • 2 1" x 1" cubes Melt and pour soap base
  • 1/2 cup white granulated sugar
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1/8 teaspoons Orange Mica Powder
  • 20 drops Sweet Orange Essential Oil
  • 10 drops Peppermint Essential Oil
Instructions

Using a soap mold cutter or a knife, cut the melt and pour soap base into 1" x 1" cubes.
Next add two of the cubes into a microwave-safe measuring cup. Set the rest aside.
Place the microwave-safe cup into the microwave and heat on high for approximately 10 seconds. Remove the cup and stir well. Place back into the microwave and heat again for 10 seconds, remove and stir, then if needed, heat again for 10 seconds. The key to remember is to not overheat the melt and pour soap base.
Then add in the white granulated sugar and then pour in the olive oil and stir using a wooden stir stick until everything is combined.
Place back into the microwave for an additional 10 seconds so everything can be softened up again.
Next, remove the cup carefully from the microwave and quickly add in the Orange Mica Powder and the Sweet Orange Essential Oil and the Peppermint Essential Oil.
Then pour the soap into the molds.
Let the soap mixture set for at least 2 hours or until the soap has hardened.
Carefully remove from the mold.
