Sew-along Tutorial: Cute Floral Embroidered Shoes

In this tutorial we’re going to show you how to embroider running shoes without using a sewing machine. We use simple embroidery techniques and apply them to basic canvas running shoes, for a unique, custom look. Follow along to see how our hand-embroidered running shoes turned out.
Tools and materials:
- Yellow, red and green embroidery thread
- Embroidery needle
- Pencil
- White or neutral-colored canvas running shoes
- Any other items you want to embroider
1. Embroidered floral buds and stems
Mark your desired placement of your floral design on your running shoes with a pencil.
We stuck with one single pattern, repeated several times on the shoe. This made it look clean and polished, but still pretty and custom-designed.
Use the embroidery stitch of your choice to add your floral design in the pattern you sketched in. For our first pair of running shoes, we made a simple pattern of two small red buds with green leaves, attached to a single stem.
Then we repeated the same floral pattern four more times on both sides of both running shoes.
We think they look great!
2. Embroidered yellow daisies and leaves
For our second floral embroidery pattern, we designed three yellow daisies interspersed with some green leaves.
On one shoe we did just one pattern and on the other shoe we added the floral pattern twice. This time we only embroidered on the outside of each shoe.
We think it looks great both ways!

Which design do you like best? The small double buds repeated all along both sides of the shoe, or the cluster of yellow flowers that we just embroidered once on the outside of one shoe and twice on the outside of the other?
These are both very simple designs and you can use the same technique on lots of different items. Maybe try a ball cap, a tote bag or a t-shirt.
Leave a comment with your suggestions for other things you can custom embroider and some favorite designs that you have used.
