How I Made a Cute Skirt Out of a Boring Shirt! (minimal Stitching)

I had this "just ok" shirt. It wasn't bad, just nothing special either and I didn't need more t-shirts, so I decided to make it into a high waisted pencil skirt instead!

This would only work for a shirt with an open neckline like this one had and string to tie together.

The first thing I did was stitch the sleeves closed. I turned the shirt inside out first to do this.

That way you can tuck the short sleeves into the arm hole to create pockets!

That was all the sewing this skirt entailed! I know some people are great with a sewing machine but that is one of the talents I lack. I can do simple stiches but would NOT be able to sew a dress from scratch.

I tied the stings that were initially part of the collar into a bow around my waist and that was it!

Ta Da! I thought this looked really cute with a black turtle neck for a cute but casual look. And who doesn't love pockets as a women? We rarely get them in dresses and skirt!

Suggested materials:
  • Old t shirt with open collar
  • Some thread and needle
