This is a fantastic tutorial for an easy half-up fishtail style hairdo.

I love wearing my hair half up but it’s boring to just pull it straight back.

This look adds some fun and variety to a simple half-updo.

Tools and materials:

  • Hair ties
  • Comb
Sectioning hair

1. Section and braid

Use a comb to gather the frontmost section of the top of your hair.

Braiding hair

Separate it into four equal strands.

Make a fishtail braid by crossing the leftmost strand over the strand next to it and combine it with the other two.

Then take the rightmost strand and do the same in the opposite direction. Continue till you finish the braid.

Braiding hair

Tie it at the bottom and tug at the sides of the braid to create volume.

2. Half ponytail

Gather the next section of hair from around the front of your face and pull it back into a half pony.

Tying a half ponytail

Flip the fishtail back and open a few of the strands to pull the half pony through the braid.

3. Tease and tug

Tease the hair at the back of your head under the ponytail.

Tugging hair

Then go back to tug at the sides of the braid again to add even more volume.
