Homemade Makeup Brush Cleaner With Special Ingredient
This homemade makeup brush cleaner has a special ingredient that makes it even better!
I am always sharing skincare tips on instagram, and I have had many questions about makeup brush cleaners and what I use.
This is such a simple and easy solution to make, but will keep your brushes clean and sanitary to use!
- 1 cup warm water
- 1 tsp dish soap
- 5 drops peppermint oil
- Silicone trivet pad
- Microfiber cloth
- Mix everything in a jar, then add your brushes. This solution works for about three large brushes and four to five small ones.
- Soak brushes for about 10 minutes, then scrub the brush on the silicone pad to remove any lasting makeup.
- Rinse brush under warm water.
- Press brush on a microfiber cloth to remove excess water.
- Fan out brushes, then lay out on towel until dry (usually takes overnight to dry completely)
Check out the pictures below.
Soak brushes for about 10 minutes.
This type of silicone pad is great for scrubbing the brushes after they soak.
After rinsing, fan them out like this so they dry faster.
Lay them out on a microfiber.
And that is all it takes! The ratios of our solution are perfect for cleaning your brushes as often as you need. Be sure to follow Chemistry Cachet for more great science based tips for cleaning, skincare, gardening, and health!

My dermatologist has had me washing my brushes with shampoo for years. He says shampoo is designed for removing soil from hair (bristles) and rinses clean.
I always pour/work in some rubbing alcohol on my brushes after cleaning them. The alcohol help the brushes dry faster!
