How to Make a Wrap Top Out of a T-Shirt Without Sewing a Stitch
Don’t throw out any old t-shirts just yet! Follow my tutorial to learn how to make a wrap top from an old t-shirt. This DIY wrap top with a tie back will look great with any bottom piece. There is no sewing necessary, so just grab a pair of scissors and a ruler and let’s begin!
Tools and materials:
- Old t-shirt
- Ruler
- Scissors
1. Cut your t-shirt
Turn your t-shirt inside out and measure and mark the wrap-top length you would like on the back of the t-shirt.
Cut the back of the t-shirt only at that length.
2. Create your DIY wrap top
Now fold your t-shirt in half lengthwise and mark the center point on the front of the t-shirt.
Now draw and cut a narrow triangle shape in the front of the shirt, from the center point to the bottom hem.
3. Make wrap ties
Cut the piece you cut off the back of your t-shirt into two equal rectangles.
Lay one rectangle over the bottom front of your t-shirt, on one side of the cut-out triangle. Use a ruler to draw a diagonal line from the outer edge of the rectangle to the center point on the same side of your t-shirt. Do the same on the other side of your t-shirt.
Cut out those side triangles.
Use a seam ripper to open the hem on the front of the t-shirt.
Now, tie one of the rectangle pieces to the bottom of one side of the t-shirt front. Repeat on the other side.
Snip off the excess fabric from the knots you tied.
4. Clean up the edges
Turn your t-shirt right-side out and trim any uneven edges.
How to make a wrap top
To wear your new DIY wrap top, cross over the front of the top and tie it at your waist in the back. The knots you tied will pretty much be hidden inside and no one will know how your cute cross-wrap top started off!
