Four Ways to Wear a Sundress

Four Ways to Wear A Sundress

Nothing says summer like the simple sundress. A good ol’ thin-strap dress is just a classic. But if you tend to wear these as a staple in the summer, things may get a tad boring. Liven up your sundresses by adding some lightweight layers to bring in color, prints and texture.

With a Blouse

A light button-down blouse will give your sundress a whole new look. Leave a couple of buttons undone at the top to let the dress peek through. This will let people see the layers to add interest to the outfit. Look for slightly fitted or crop top styles that don’t hang too low, or the look may get sloppy. This is a great way to wear those crop tops you stopped wearing because you don’t want to show your belly – the dress will cover it! Crop tops also let the fullness of the skirt shine with a bit of nipped waist underneath. Shop crop top blouse.

With Button-Down Shirt

A classic button-down shirt gets a summery upgrade when paired with a sundress. Leave it unbuttoned and tie it at the waist for a fun layer that also protects your shoulders and arms from getting too much sun. Try a fun floral or gingham print for full summer vibes. A denim shirt will provide a little more warmth if you’re on a windy beach, and you can never go wrong with a crisp white button-down in the summer for a light cover-up. Shop button-down shirt.

With a Vest and Belted

A vest (also known as a waistcoat) will add a dash of old-fashioned elegance to your casual dress. Look for a jacquard or brocade material to add some texture to the look, or go for a pop of fun color. If your sundress is already a bright color or floral print, try a basic solid black or tan neutral vest to add contrast and ground the look a bit. Shop vest.

With a T-Shirt

Don’t forget your sundress can double as a separate. Grab one of your favorite t-shirts and wear it over so just the skirt of the dress shows. Be sure to wear a looser-fitting T-shirt so the dress’s top doesn’t look stuffed underneath. Gather the t-shirt in a knot or with a slide at the waist so you have some definition to your silhouette. For ideas on how to knot a t-shirt, see my  previous article. Again, this is great for those who like the midriff look but don’t want to show their belly because the dress will cover it. Shop loose T-shirt.

Now that you know some ways to wear a sundress, which one will you try?
