3 Ways to Wear Winter White

There may be a fashion “rule” that says not to wear white after Labor Day, but clearly, it doesn’t take into account the stunning look of winter white.

There’s something about matching the beauty of winter’s snowfall that makes white the perfect choice for the coldest season. And pulling off a winter white look is relatively easy since this monochrome color scheme is just one hue, so everything matches! It’s also great for travel for that reason. If bright white is too harsh with your skin tone, warm it up by leaning into shades of ivory and cream.

And just a note on footwear: I find it challenging to match shoes to a monochrome outfit. You can finish your winter white look with a pair of white booties or blend feet into the background with black, nude or metallic shoes. If you ever noted Queen Elizabeth’s famous monochrome style, she usually wore basic black shoes-- and handbag -- with everything.

Here are three ways to wear winter white:

Be the Snow Bunny

There’s something about wearing white in winter that gives snow bunny vibes. Play it up with a fluffy white sweater and furry white hat. I put this sweater over a classic white shift dress to make the dress a year-round wardrobe staple. Don’t forget some nude, white or black tights or hose to keep your legs warm.  Shop white fluffy sweater.

Exude Casual Cool

Just like wearing all black emits a certain cool quality, so does all white. There’s something daring about this sharp style choice. Top one of your white summer dresses with a white motorcycle jacket, and you have a cool casual look that gets you noticed. You can layer on a white sweater to keep you extra warm on colder days. Shop  white moto jacket.

Play Dress Up

For special occasions, winter white creates a head-turning look that will make you the belle of the ball. A cocktail dress such as this tapestry ivory fit and flare dress with an ivory boucle coat provides a sense of drama. Ground it with some booties or dress it up with metallic heels. I also added some ivory tights for warmth since it is wintertime, after all!  Shop white dress.

Now that you know some winter white ideas, which one will you try first?
