Long Cardigan: How I Styled It

A longer lightweight cardigan is the perfect spring-into-summer topper that can be worn in a variety of ways. It's a great piece to pack in your weekend bag - paired with a swimsuit for day and then with a tank or tee dress in the evening. It also looks polished with a business casual top for work or zoom calls. I chose this lightweight white knit with a bright geranium stripe because I loved the color and knew it would coordinate with many things I already had in my closet. Because it is lighter weight and flowy, it works on all shapes and sizes. Bonus - this one has pockets!

This is my favorite way to wear a long cardigan - paired with a tank the same color as the stripe and on-trend cropped wide leg denim. I added a belt and chunky heeled shoes in a nude toned color to keep the bright color pop. Adding a little bit of height with the shoes gives me a little more confidence with the longer length of the sweater. Add your favorite jewelry and it's a casual but polished look.

Pattern mixing can be a little intimidating, but I saw this outfit on a blog and since I had all the pieces decided to give it a try. The color palette is light and summery, so I just kept it simple with a neutral belt and espadrille platform sandals. The contrast of the simple stripe and smaller pattern work well together and the raw assymmetrical hem of the jeans give it a fun vibe. I have a few other patterned tops that I might mix and match for a different look and feel.

Using the same color top as the stripe in the cardigan again, I changed out the denim to a distressed, cuffed and rolled boyfriend jean. I also chose an ankle strap platform sandal in the same color as the accent stripe. The accessories are also a bit chunkier, with a unique patterned stone. With just a few changes in accessories, the look is more casual and relaxed.

With summer upon us, I have a few more ideas how I'd like to wear this long cardigan - denim shorts, white linen drawstring beach style pants, white cutoffs - but I know it will be something I reach for quite a bit.
