How to use coconut oil for hair

If you have dry ends or a scalp, applying coconut oil directly to these areas is a great solution. It is a fantastic moisturizer and will give that much-needed boost. Add more ingredients, such as castor oil and Vitamin E to stimulate hair growth.

2. Use coconut oil to remove makeup

The second use of coconut oil is to remove makeup! You literally don’t need anything other than coconut oil on some cotton swabs. Don’t go overboard; a little bit goes a long way.

Also, what’s great about it is that it’s good for sensitive eyes as it doesn’t irritate them. We recommend using this for your eyeliner and mascara before you wash your face.

3. Coconut oil body scrub

Another great use of coconut oil is using it as a body scrub. If you have dry skin, this scrub is super beneficial for your body, especially those of us with "lizard legs!" It’s easy to make, and you can wing it based on how much you need.

We are using a tablespoon of coconut oil with sea salt. You can use sea salt or coffee grounds (great for cellulite to stimulate skin collagen). Simply rub it in and see how the coconut oil melts into your skin!

Tip: Use this homemade scrub directly in the shower so you can wash it off and prevent a big mess.

You can also use coconut oil to make a DIY lip scrub.

If you don’t have moisturizer at home or want to use a natural one, coconut oil is your best friend (it will solve those dry lizard-looking legs, too).

You don’t need to add bells, whistles, or fancy stuff- just add a little and rub it into your hands, elbows, knees, wherever! Again, a little goes a long way; don’t get crazy and oil yourself up too much.

One of our favorite ways to use coconut oil on skin is as part of a relaxing bath. Check out our DIY bubble bath recipe with coconut oil and lavender.

5. Use coconut oil as a face mask

Another great use for coconut oil is using it as a face mask. In a clean bowl, add one tablespoon of coconut oil and generously add some baking soda into the mixture. Then, mix until thoroughly combined. Baking soda acts as an exfoliant, and you basically get rid of dead skin cells.

This will give you pore shrinkage and will brighten your skin. There are many types of coconut oil masks, so if you don’t have baking soda, you can add oatmeal or lemon; lots of endless opportunities to use coconut oil.

Next, add a little mixture to your face and gently rub it in. It’s a very gentle exfoliation and feels great on the skin! This will cost you less than $5, unlike other drugstore brands that retail for $75.

Using coconut oil to clean makeup brushes

6. Use coconut oil as a makeup brush cleaner

Now there’s no way to use the “ I don’t have a makeup brush cleaner” excuse. If you’re like us and have dirty makeup brushes, then coconut oil is your answer!

To clean your makeup brushes, simply place the soap in a bowl with a little coconut oil (for the moisture part). Don’t add too much; otherwise, your brushes will become oily.

Then, mix the soap and the coconut oil until evenly distributed.

This is the part where you don’t judge us when you see how much dirt comes out of this! Look at all that foundation that’s coming out! The foundation brush already looks better than it originally was.

Using coconut oil as a lip balm

7. Use coconut oil as a lip balm

Winter equals dry lips, and this is where coconut oil helps. All you need to do is dab a little coconut oil and directly apply it to your lips. It’s super moisturizing and not sticky, which leaves your lips feeling smooth and not dry.
