Diet

1. Follow these healthy nail tips

Make sure you are eating enough essential, healthy nutrients to keep your nails strong and healthy.

This includes zinc, which you get from pumpkin seeds (preferably unroasted); dark chocolate, wheat germ, sesame seeds, and garlic.

You can also get zinc from seafood and beef.

Checking nails for white spots

Check your nails for white spots – that can indicate a zinc deficiency.

Iron

Also make sure you are getting enough iron. Some natural food sources for iron are dried apricots, beans and lentils, spinach and other dark-leafy greens, tofu and cashews. Grass-fed beef and liver are also high sources of iron.

Other important nutrients for nail health are collagen peptides, biotin, silica, vitamin A, magnesium, hydrochloric acid, calcium.

Watch the video from 3:48 to 4:10 for examples of sources for those nutrients.

2.  Follow these healthy nail habits:

  • Don’t over-wash your hands because that can dry out your skin
  • Winter weather is also damaging for your nails, so protect your hands
  • Instead of using an emery nail file, switch to a glass nail file, as it’s less harsh on your nails
  • Wear gloves when washing dishes
  • Trim your nails after a shower when they are softer
  •  Avoid too much chlorine from pools and hand-sanitizer. You can make your own natural hand sanitizer
  • Avoid artificial nails because they restrict air flow to your nails.
  • Use non-toxic nail polish and natural nail polish remover

Add the sweet almond oil, jojoba oil and beeswax to the bowl. Heat and stir occasionally until the wax is completely melted.

Remove the bowl from the heat and carefully dry the outside of the bowl to prevent any water from getting into the cuticle cream as you are pouring it.
