How to make onion juice

Cutting up a red onion

1. Cut the onion

Start by peeling and cutting your red onion into equal pieces.

Putting the onion and water in a blender

2. Blend everything

Place your onion pieces in a blender and add enough water to cover the onion pieces.

Blending the onion

Next, blend everything together until you get a juice-like consistency.

Straining the onion juice

3. Strain the DIY onion juice

Place a strainer on top of a bowl and pour the onion juice. This should sift out any pieces.

Pulp left in the strainer

Let it sit so that all the juice drains down to the bowl. You’ll notice the red onion juice turn into pulp.

It's ready to use! I’m sure you’ll agree that making this recipe is pretty straightforward. Now, let’s try it out.

How to use DIY onion juice and oil

Applying the homemade onion juice to hair

1. Apply onion juice to hair

It’s best to use the onion juice before you wash your hair. Part your hair to make it easier to work with.

DIY onion juice for hair growth

Start spraying your hair with the DIY onion juice and distribute it along each section of hair with your fingers. Repeat this around your head, ensuring you get the juice from root to tip.

Make sure that your hair soaks up the onion juice. When you’re done spraying the juice throughout your hair, go ahead and brush your hair. Also, use gloves as the smell is potent and will make your fingers smell.

Applying onion oil

2. Apply onion oil

Now, I’ll be adding some onion oil. You can find my DIY onion oil recipe here. Apply the onion oil through the hair, going section by section.

Rubbing the onion oil onto the scalp

Make sure you rub the oil on your scalp, too. This homemade onion juice has been beneficial for my edges, so don’t forget to rub some on there!

Using gloves to apply the onion juice and oil

When done with a section, divide it into two, and twist it before moving on to the next section.

Tip: Make sure your hair is detangled before applying the oil. I prefer using my fingers to a comb.

Twisting hair

Once your whole head has onion oil and the sections have been twisted, twirl your ends and add more oil to your scalp.

Covering hair with a plastic cap

Cover your hair with a plastic cap. I usually do this in the morning instead of the evening. I don’t want an onion odor on my pillow - no thanks! Keep the plastic cap on for the whole day.

Wearing a bonnet

I also place a bonnet and go on about my day. The next step is to wash your hair thoroughly.

DIY onion juice tutorial

We’ve come to the end of the DIY onion juice and oil tutorial! I love this homemade onion juice so much and it has loads of benefits. It helps with blood circulation on your scalp, helps balance the pH levels in your hair, prevents hair breakage, and restores hair growth where you may have bald patches.

Also, it’s excellent for the edges; if you're missing edges, you definitely need to try this out.
