How to Easily Make a Cute DIY Color Block Dress From 3 Tank Tops

In this tutorial, I’ll be showing you how to make a DIY color block dress so that you can express your unique sense of creativity all year round. In only 4 easy steps, you can transform 3 tank tops in an assortment of your favorite colors into a fitted dress you’ll love.

Tools and materials:
- 3 tank tops in different colors
- Fabric ruler
- Fabric marker or pen
- Scissors
- Straight pins
1. Measure and cut the first tank top for the top section of the dress
Measure 4 inches down from the top of the first tank top.
Mark it with a fabric marker or pen on each side. Use the ruler to draw a line across the tank top, connecting the two marks on either side, to use as a guide for cutting.
Cut the tank top along the guideline with a pair of sharp scissors.
2. Measure and cut the second tank top for the middle section of the dress
Repeat the same process with the second tank top as you did with the first by measuring 4 inches down.
Mark it on both sides of the tank top with a fabric marker or pen.
Use the ruler to draw a guideline. Then cut across the guideline with a sharp pair of scissors.
Next, use the ruler to measure 2 inches up from the bottom hem.
Marking the tank top on both sides. Then cut along the guideline with scissors.
3. Measure and cut the third tank top for the bottom section of the dress
Using the fabric ruler, measure 2 inches down from the top of the third tank top.
Mark the tank top on both sides with a fabric marker or pen. Use a ruler to draw the guideline.
Cut the tank top along the guideline with scissors.
4. Assemble the tank tops into a dress
Turn the middle section inside out and turn it upside down.
Place the top section inside the middle section and line them up so that the bottom seam of the top section lines up with the top seam of the middle section.
Pin the top and middle sections together at both corners and the middle seam where you’ll be stitching them together.
Place the top and middle sections of the dress on the sewing machine and sew them together with a zig-zag stitch. You want the stitches really close together.
Next, turn the tank top that will serve as the bottom section of the dress inside out and upside down.
Place the top and middle section tank tops inside the bottom section and line the cut seams up so that the bottom of the middle section of the dress lines up with the top of the bottom section of the dress.
Pin the seams at the corners and along the middle of the seam.
Sew the bottom section of the dress onto the top and middle section along the pinned seam line with a zig-zag stitch.
Roll the bottom section of the dress down and try it on.
