3 Gorgeous, Half-up, Half-Down Wedding Hairstyles for Long Hair

Hi, guys. For today’s tutorial, I wanted to do some wedding hairstyles for long hair. I want to show you some beginner-friendly and really easy half-up, half-down hairstyles. These hairstyles can be great for weddings, but they can also be great for just everyday hairstyles or special occasions, and you can try them on yourself or on family members and friends! I’m starting this tutorial with already prepped hair. So, I curled it with a 1-inch curling iron and then went in with dry shampoo and a texture spray. Prep your hair however you want, and let’s get started!
Tools and materials:
- Hair elastics
- Clips/accessories
Hairstyle 1:
1. Create a ponytail
Grab a small section right in the middle of your head, and tie it off with a clear elastic.
2. Create a hole in the ponytail
Then, create a hole right above the elastic.
3. Flip your ponytail through the hole
Flip your ponytail through the hole. Make sure to pull all of your hair through it, and then tighten it.
For added texture, just pinch and pull a bit at the top.
4. Repeat with a new section
Grab a section from the right side and the left side of your head, and tie it off with a clear elastic.
Since you already have a hole, you don’t have to make one. Just flip your ponytail through and tighten it. Make sure it’s nice and centered, and then pinch and pull for texture.
Repeat again. Maneuver each section so there are not any gaps.
5. Frame your face
Frame your face with some hair in the front, and then add any hair accessories you want.
Here’s the finished half-up, half-down wedding hair! This is super cute and super wearable. I’d probably make my hair a bit curlier, but I really like how it turned out.
Hairstyle 2:
1. Pull ponytail through
Similar to the previous hairstyle, you’re going to create a ponytail with a hole, but this time, you’re going to pull your ponytail through from underneath, not from above. This creates a voluminous ponytail.
Tie it tight, then clip it out of the way.
2. Section and twist
Take a section from the left side of your head and a section from the right, and twist them both around your finger.
3. Combine and tie off
Combine and tie off the two twisted sections.
4. Finishing touches
Pinch and pull each side to create some texture. Add a hair accessory if you want, and you’re done!
Here’s another one of our finished half-up, half-down hairstyles! You can wear this half-up, half-down, or wear it as a ponytail. I recommend teasing it a bit to make it really voluminous, but I like how it turned out.
Hairstyle 3:
1. Twist your sections
Take a section in the middle of your head, give it a little twist, and then bobby pin it.
Repeat with a section right next to it. Pinch and pull for volume and texture.
2. Twist down a section on the left
Take a section from the left side, divide it into two equal strands, and then twist them around each other all the way down.
Pull on the bottom twist to stretch it out and make it nice and fluffy.
3. Drape and pin
Drape the section around the other two sections you bobby-pinned, and bobby-pin it together.
4. Repeat
Repeat on the right side.
5. Create and flip a ponytail
Now, like in the previous tutorials, take a section from the left and the right. Combine them with a clear elastic, and then flip the ponytail up and through the hole. Tighten it so it’s secure, then pinch and pull for texture.
6. Add the finishing touches
Add an accessory and pull out some face-framing hairs, and you’re done!
Here’s the finished half-up, half-down wedding hair look! This one is probably my favorite hairstyle, and I really love it.
