In this tutorial, I'll show you how to make outfits out of a 10-piece fall capsule wardrobe. I was going to show you 10 outfits that I could put together with them, but the clothes are so versatile that I managed to create 17 different looks!
How many items should be in a capsule wardrobe?
You can make your fall capsule wardrobe as small or large as you like.
In this tutorial, I'm using 10 fall capsule wardrobe essentials to show how you can create a multitude of fall capsule wardrobe outfits with only a small selection of clothes. You'll likely have most of them in your closet already. My 10-piece fall capsule wardrobe is composed of:
- Cream overcoat
- Beige high neck sweater
- Cream v-neck sweater
- White silk shirt
- White menswear shirt
- Black roll neck top
- Mom jeans
- Black skinny jeans
- Boots
- Sneakers
How many colors are in a capsule wardrobe?
I've opted for a neutral palette of black, white, and cream, while the mom jeans are a light wash. Sticking to this palette means that all the fall capsule wardrobe pieces can be paired with each other, as well as any other items from my regular wardrobe.
You can always add pops of color with accessories.
1. High-contrast
For a high-contrast look, go for a black base and layer a cream overcoat on top. The light and the dark colors complement one another really well.
2. Tight and loose
Pair your skinny jeans with a loose-fitting sweater to vary the types of fit within your outfit. Having contrasting elements in an outfit is a key to great dressing.
3. Cream and beige
Simply layer the cream overcoat on top to instantly elevate the look and give it a bit more structure. Cream and beige are a winning combination, and they give off a soft and gentle feel.
4. Everyday denim
What’s not to love about an everyday look that gives you comfort as well as polish? Match your black roll neck with your boots, throw on your mom jeans, add an overcoat, and you’re good to go.
5. Masculine vibe
To bring in a bit of masculine vibe, wear your white shirt untucked and hanging down. This draws attention away from the waistline and creates a less tailored and more relaxed aesthetic.
6. Laidback
Keep it laidback and easygoing by throwing on a pair of sneakers and wearing your shirt tucked out. This outfit is great for those days when comfort is at the top of your checklist.
7. Accentuated waistline
To accentuate your waistline, simply tuck your shirt into your pants, and that will instantly give your silhouette a bit more definition. Tucking your shirt in also makes your outfit look balanced and proportional.
8. Layered v
Layering one v-shaped neckline on top of another makes for a beautiful look. Create an interesting waistline by opting for two pieces that fall to different lengths.
9. Single v
Don’t want so many layers? No problem, just switch out the shirt. The beauty of a capsule wardrobe is the wealth of combinations that it allows for.
10. Crossover
Reinvent your white shirt by crossing it over at the bottom to create a deep-v shape. Contrast the low hang of the shirt with the high neck of the top.
11. Layered
My favorite thing about fall dressing is layering up. You can either go with a lighter base layer and darker outerwear or do it the other way around, as I’ve done here with a black base layer with white and cream on top.
12. Everyday denim
I’m pretty sure that I already styled this look, tee-hee! But I love it so much that here it is again :)
13. Draped sweater
Repurpose your sweater by wearing it draped over your shoulders, so it almost looks like a scarf. This is a great way to use a piece of clothing as an accessory.
14. Elevated casual
Mix formal and casual elements by pairing a white shirt with a pair of jeans and some sneakers. You don’t have to be rigid and think that certain pieces can’t be worn together when it comes to dressing. It’s always fun to mix and match different styles of clothing.
15. High neck jumper
A high neck sweater is perfect for chilly days as it’s like having a sweater and a scarf all in one. What could be cozier than bundling on a big soft coat over the top?
16. Vertical
Create a slimming vertical line running down the middle of your outfit by layering a white shirt over a black top and keeping it unbuttoned.
17. Light and bright
Keep it light and bright by pairing white and cream together. These colors give a calm and relaxing vibe which is perfect for laid-back, quiet days.
