Thanksgiving Outfit Ideas

Are you the chief cook and bottle washer on Turkey day? If so, you REALLY need to be cool and comfy all day. The solution for you is an outfit that has multiple light layers. That way, as the kitchen gets hotter, you will take off a layer, and not miss a fashionable beat. Stay tuned.

Does your family go with totally casual Thanksgiving outfit ideas? Are we talking denim on denim? Or are we thinking of a comfy Thanksgiving outfit with leggings with a big oversized turtleneck? Keep reading.

Or is a Thanksgiving dress the way you want to go? The one I am featuring lends itself more to being a guest, but it can be adapted to a hostess look with a few easy tricks.

And then for the outdoorsy group, consider a look that takes you from coffee and pumpkin bread for the Macy’s Day parade in front of the t.v., straight on through to a brisk walk around the neighborhood and then back to the table. The answer here is multiple layers and accessories.

No matter what Thanksgiving day dinner outfit you’re going for, I’ve got you covered! Let’s take a peek at what to wear for Thanksgiving.

Casual Thanksgiving Outfits for Women

Casual is the most typical vibe of the day from my polling of my readers. Most of us are spending some (lots?) of time preparing parts of the meal, and others are generously scrubbing the multitude of dishes, pots, and pans. So that kitchen gets pretty hot with all those ovens going and all those people bumping elbows. This brings me to outfit number ONE.

Outfit Number One: Denim on Denim
Here is what to wear for Thanksgiving. I am wearing a denim shirt with medium-wash jeans with a yellow belt and a darling yellow print scarf at my neck.

This is such a simple outfit to put together from your own closet. Take a soft lightweight chambray or denim shirt and pair it with a comfy pair of medium-wash jeans. For shoes, throw on these darling (well-padded) leopard Birdies flats and you’re almost done. Add a gold watch and bangle which will look sharp as you roll up your sleeves.

Add a simple pair of classic gold hoop earrings as well as this DARLING yellow print scarf. Order this today and you will have it in time for the Big Day! Seriously, the scarf makes the look really cool. And if you have longer hair, once you get hot, pop your hair into a ponytail and wear the scarf around that. The last detail is a yellow or natural bel t that I looped around my waist. Pro-Tip: If your belt gets too tight, remove it, and untuck your shirt. Then put the belt on over the shirt in a looser but still classy way. No one needs to know…

Outfit Nuber Two: Leopard over Denim
In this elegant Thanksgiving day outfit I am wearing a very light-weight leopard cardigan over medium-wash jeans with nude D'orsay pumps. My necklace is a great gold link necklace by Evereve with a central pearl. I am also wearing hoop earrings and a white tee.

This cute Thanksgiving outfit is probably my favorite. It meets to criteria of being comfy and layered. It starts out all put together with the white v-neck tee under the incredibly soft, cozy. and inexpensive leopard cardigan, both worn over mid-wash jeans. To zhuzh it up a bit, I added a leopard belt and a fun brown tote.

But, what I really like about this casual Thanksgiving outfit is the sweet Evereve necklace. It’s a gold link chain with a solid pearl in the center. The lady at the store talked me into it, and I love the classy cool it suggests, even if I get so hot that I am just wearing the tee and jeans.

In the last photo, you see I am wearing nude D’Orsay pump s. They happen to be comfortable, but if I were headed to someone’s house and was asked to clean dishes, etc. I would (bring in my purse) pop on my leopard Birdies flats.

Outfit Number 3: A Thanksgiving Dress

When deciding what to wear for Thanksgiving, this pretty light-weight but fully lined dress from Evereve is a real winner. It’s very comfortable to wear and I think it looks better belted. But as we all know, belts can get a bit uncomfortable after the big feast. So I would wear it early in the day, and discreetly pop it in my purse, if I felt that need,

I love the look of this dress for a family photo, as I think it is so soft and romantic in its styling. I paired it with slouchy suede boots that are very comfortable to stand in due to their chunky block heel. And you could always bring a cute pair of flats to pop on if you get stuck with dishwashing duty.

Here is a solution to what to wear for Thanksgiving. I am spring an Evereve print dress with a pair of tan slouchy suede boot. For jewelry, I am wearing a pave heart necklace and a stainless steel Ebel watch.

Check out this very classic pave heart necklace that I often wear. Here’s a very similar belt.

Outfit Number Four: A Great Vest Layered Over Pieces

This is what to wear for Thanksgiving that will take you from breakfast watching the parade, to a cozy walk outside, and then back inside for dinner. It starts with a black long-sleeved tee and comfy black jeans and suede booties. The coolest piece of this outfit is this very sharp puffer vest from Evereve. It is so comfy and warm It runs big so size down one size.

This fourth outfit is a layered look where I took black jeans, a black tee and black booties, and I added an olive green Evereve puffer vest. I also layered a colorful scared over a pretty, inexpensive statement necklace.

The vest looks neat worn open over the tee and a Pro-Tip is to layer a neat (and very expensive) statement necklace under the pretty colorful long scarf. Wearing the necklace underneath allows you the freedom to look sharp if you’re all bundled up with the tied scarf, or if you’re cooling off, while wearing the vest open. Also, the brown cross-body Patricia Nash purse is a wonderful find! Great color and it’s a terrific organizer for your credit cards, IDs, and phone.

Outfit Number 5: A Cozy Cardigan over a Turtleneck and Jeans or Leggings

This is a very comfy Thanksgiving outfit. I love the look of wearing a “column of one color”. Here I wore the black ribbed turtleneck with black ankle jeans. To make it even cozier, I could swap out the denim jeans for these very soft black velvet jeans.

I think black velvet jeans are the BEST find for the holidays. They always look dressy, but because they’re so soft, they almost feel like leggings, but a lot more elevated. To interrupt the column a teensy bit, I added a thin silver chain link belt. Of course, at meal time no one will be the wiser if you pop that bad boy into your purse!

The fifth and final look in my What to Wear for Thanksgiving is a cozy ensemble where again I wore a column of black with a black ribbed turtleneck, black jeans, black suede booties and a classic Talbots black and white houndstooth cardigan. I added a silver link belt and silver pave hoop earrings.

To coordinate with the belt, I added silver pave hoop earrings which I love against the black turtleneck. Black suede booties are such a great basic.

This black and white houndstooth cardigan is so classic. Here are four easy ways to wear it.
