In this tutorial, I'm going to show you thirteen different ways to style a hair scarf. Hair scarves are a great fashion accessory that I feel is often overlooked. If you've never worn a scarf in your hair before, I understand that you think that it might be a bit fiddly and complicated, but I'm here to show you that styling a scarf can be really easy and take you no time at all. Let's get started.

How to style hair scarves

Simple tie

Roll the scarf up, bring it around your head from the back, and tie a double knot in the front of your head. To finish, tuck one of the ends in.

Cute twist

Starting from the back of your head, bring the scarf forward and up to the top of your head. Tie a double knot. Tuck the loose ends into the scarf. Pull out pieces of hair to frame your face.

Boho chic

Fold your scarf to the desired width. Start from the top of your head and tie underneath your hair. Leave the ends down and in front. Pull out pieces of hair in front.

Basic hair scarf styles

Twisted plait

Fold the scarf to your desired width. Wrap the scarf around your head starting from the top of your head and tuck it behind your ears. Bring the ends to the back and section your hair into three. Braid down. Tie with elastic. Wrap one end of the scarf around the end of the braid. Pull out pieces of hair in front.

Full head cover

Fold the scarf into a triangle. Start from the top of your head and tie the ends under your hair. Adjust to your liking. Pull out pieces of hair to frame your face.

Front knot

Place the scarf on your forehead and pull back to tie. Bring ends back up to the front and do a double knot.

Dangling down

Pull hair back into a low ponytail. Roll the scarf. Start from underneath your pony and tie around the band. Double knot the scarf and adjust the ends.

Low bun

Pull hair into a low bun. Roll the scarf. Start from the bottom of your bun and wrap up, down, and then back up to the top of your bun. Tie into a knot. Tuck loose ends into the bun.

Dangling bun

Repeat steps from the previous style. Leave ends loose instead of tucking in.

Headband hair tie

With hair in a loose bun, place the scarf on top of your hairline and pull back. Tie a knot under the bun. Take the ends and wrap them up to tie a knot. Take ends and wrap under the bun again, double knot ends.

Twisted bun

Pull hair back into a low ponytail. Start from under your ponytail and tie it into a knot. Grab loose ends and ponytail and start twisting hair. Wrap into a bun and tie with an elastic. Adjust loose ends. Pull out hair to frame your face.

And that’s a wrap! (Sorry, I couldn’t help myself). If you’ve never worn a scarf in your hair before then, you now have thirteen looks to try out. Whether you want to have your hair down, in a pony, or a bun, there is a way to incorporate a scarf into your look. Now all you need are some gorgeous scarves (I personally like silk ones the best), and you’re ready to get started.
