Learn how to make a rose petal salve and rose salve benefits for your skin. This is a beautiful salve that has the benefits of roses for your skin. You can use rose essential oil or a substitute if you don't have rose essential oil.

Salves are easy to make for beginners. Since they don't have water in them, they don't need a preservative.

Unlike lotions, there's no oil and water phase to worry about. You simply melt the ingredients, combine, and pour.

There are several rose salve benefits for your skin, and this rose salve recipe also smells amazing.

Here are some of the rose salve benefits for your skin:

  • Roses have vitamins A and C to promote skin health.
  • Roses are high in antioxidants to promote anti aging properties.
  • Rose petals are hydrating for your skin. They are especially good for dry skin.
  • Roses have anti-inflammatory properties and can reduce redness.
  • Roses can promote skin healing from minor cuts and scrapes.

The beeswax also helps trap the ingredients next to your skin. This helps the DIY rose salve work for several hours after you apply it.

I also used roses in the following DIY recipes:

You can buy rose infused oil or make your own. I have an entire post devoted to how to make rose oil at home, so read that for more information.

To make rose oil, you'll need to make an infusion with dried rose petals and a carrier oil. Then you'll let it sit for 2 weeks to infuse the flowers and the oil.

Then strain out the rose petals and save the oil. You can then use the oil to make this rose salve recipe or use it in other DIY beauty recipes.

You can also buy rose infused oil to use to make your salve.

The best carrier oil to use for your rose salve ingredients depends on your skin needs. Do you have very dry skin? Do you want a lightweight salve that doesn't leave your hands greasy?

Here are some carrier oils to try:

  • Sweet almond oil is a good all purpose oil. It's not too heavy or too light. It's nourishing for dry skin without being too oily.
  • Apricot kernel oil and sunflower oil are both dry oils, so they soak into the skin quickly. They won't leave your skin greasy after using the salve.
  • Avocado oil and hemp seed oil are heavier oils. I really like them both for dry skin, but they will make this rose salve recipe more greasy.

You can learn more about carrier oils and their benefits and the best carrier oils for skin to choose the right one.

I recommend adding essential oils to your rose petal salve for their benefits. Rose essential oil is the obvious choice, but it's very expensive.
