How to Make Your Own Body Oil at Home in 4 Simple Steps

Welcome! In this DIY, I’m going to show you how to make your own body oil. I make this body oil and sell it on my website, and I’m going to be sharing the recipe with you so that you can make it yourself.
This body oil is a lightweight, nourishing, and protective moisturizer that you can use alongside a body butter or by itself.
Before I get into how to make the body oil, I always start by washing my hands to sanitize them and putting some plastic gloves on.
Tools and materials:
- Plastic gloves
- Measuring scales
- Measuring cup
- Honey powder
- Colloidal oatmeal
- Stick (to stir)
- Whisk
- Funnel
- Meadowfoam seed oil
- Olive oil
- Sunflower oil
- Alcohol
- Spray bottle
1. Work out the measurements
The size of the bottle I use for the body oil is 4 ounces, but I will work in grams as grams give me a more accurate measurement. 4 ounces equals about 114g.
Now I list out all of my ingredients and write what percentage of the recipe they will be, which is as follows:
- Meadowfoam seed oil - 20%
- Olive oil - 36%
- Sunflower oil - 40%
- Honey powder - 2%
- Colloidal oatmeal - 2%
Once done, I work out what this equals in grams. This is how it works out:
- Meadowfoam seed oil - 20% = 22.8g
- Olive oil - 36% = 41.04g
- Sunflower oil - 40% = 45.6g
- Honey powder - 2% = 2.28g
- Colloidal oatmeal - 2% = 2.28g
This is the method I use to get the recipe for every product I make.
2. Measure out the ingredients
Next, I measure out all of the ingredients. Always make sure that your scale is in the correct unit before you begin. You can choose to either round the amounts or do exactly as it says.
3. Mix
The honey powder and colloidal oatmeal are oil-soluble, meaning that they dissolve in oil. I use a stick to stir them and make sure they are well combined.
I also recommend only adding in a bit at a time because they will get clumpy otherwise. You can also use a whisk to ensure that all of the ingredients are well blended.
The honey powder has natural anti-bacterial and anti-inflammatory properties, which are great for sensitive and acne-prone skin.
4. Pour the mixture
Next, place the funnel on top of the spray bottle and pour your mixture in.
The body oil is lightweight and is easy to apply, and a little bit goes a long way. It is also a really nice consistency and not at all greasy.
How to make your own body oil
It is better to apply the oil to wet skin because it absorbs a lot faster. When applying it, distribute it evenly over your skin.
This is a great product to use in dry seasons as it nourishes and moisturizes your skin. I also like to apply body butter to my skin as well as part of my skincare routine.
