I created a piece of DIY hair jewelry that I will be wearing for my brother’s wedding. It is to DIY for! I love designing and making new things, so the wedding was the perfect opportunity to try out something new.

Follow along as I show you how to make hair chain jewelry in just a few simple steps.

Tools and materials:

  • Silver necklaces
  • Silver clips
  • E6000 glue
  • Thin wire
  • Wire cutters
  • Pliers
Trimming the length of the necklaces

1. Trim the necklace

Trim down the necklace with your wire cutters to the desired length. Leave an extra little piece of chain at either end, as you will later link this together with the other chains in your design.

2. Cut the chains

Once you have that cut, measure the other two loops of chain that you’re using. Arrange all of the chains on the table in the way you want them to lay in your hair.

Determine the length you need to cut them to and proceed to cut. I left that chain link attached to make it easier when I attached all three together.

3. Connect the pieces

Trim a small piece of wire and connect the two pieces of chain together by threading the wire through the chain links.

Make sure you leave some excess wire because that’s how you’re going to attach it to the clips that you’re using.

4. Add the clip

Next, you’re going to use the wire to attach the clip to the chains. Try to hide the wire as much as possible by wrapping it around the inside of the clip.

Applying glue to the clip

5. Apply glue

Then, go in with your E6000 glue to fasten everything in place so it won't come apart.

6. Leave to dry

Make sure you stuff something inside the clip and leave the clip open to let it dry.

7. Repeat on the other side

Take the other end of your chain and again place the clip through it. Secure the clip in place by twisting the wire around it. Fasten the wire in place with some E6000 and leave the clip to dry open.

Here is the finished hair chain jewelry piece! I love the symmetry of the clips on either end and then the necklace and two layers of chain draping down in the middle.
