It’s very smooth and doesn't grip the hair well unless you do it this way. It works every time for me.

Creating ponytail

1. Ponytail

Gather your hair into a low ponytail.

Wrapping hair

2. Wrap

Lift the ponytail up towards the back of your head with one hand and wrap it around the thumb of the other hand.

Twisting hair

3. Twist

Keep the wrapped section over your thumb and twist it clockwise.

Spiralling hair

4. Spiral

Keep hold of the loose ends and use your thumb to spiral the hair to the back of your head.

Pinning hair

5. Pin

Push the French pin horizontally into your hair from the right until the tips of the pin are visible on the other side.

Swivelling hair

6. Swivel

Keep the pin horizontal.

Swivel it across the back of the spiral so the tips circle behind the spiral in a clockwise direction.

Pinning hair

Continue until the top of the French pin is flat against the other side of your head.

Push the tips into your hair from the left side.

Fanning hair

7. Fan

Fan out the top of the spiraled hair and arrange it to one side.
