How to Wear Dark Nail Polish: Step-By-Step Nail Polish Painting Tips

Tools and materials:

• Base coat
• Dark nail polish
• Nail polish remover
• Brush
• Top coat

1. Push back cuticles

The first thing is to start off with clean nails. Then, you’re going to push back your cuticles.

You can push them with your finger just like I’m doing here, or you can push them with anything else; it doesn’t matter, as long as it's clean.

2. Apply base coat

The second step is to apply a base coat. A base coat is very important if you have natural nails. This coat prevents your nails from yellowing or staining from all the nail polishes that you use.

3. Prepare the brush

For my nail varnish, I picked this very deep, almost black-looking color. Before painting your nails, you want to start by cleaning up your brush. You don’t want to have a lot of product on it.

Rather, there should be a bit of nail polish concentrated on one side of the brush and the other side you want to keep as clean as possible.

4. Paint your nails

The next step is to begin painting your nails. You want to get close to the cuticle but not too close. Otherwise, you will get polish on your cuticles, which will be a huge mess.

That is where people make the biggest mistake, so don’t go too close to the cuticle because it is very important to have clean and neat nails.

5. Correct any mistakes

Here, you can see that I went a bit over and messed up. If this happens, all you need to do is take a little brush, dip it into some nail polish remover and clean up your nails.

I always do this, and this is my trick to having perfect nails. Making sure that there is absolutely no polish around the sides of your nails will give you a flawless finish.

6. Apply top coat

Once everything is very clean and neat, you’re going to apply a top coat. Apply this all over your nails and again, make sure that you’re not going into the cuticle area.

The top coat coat just makes everything more beautiful and shiny.
