How to Make a Cute DIY Cell Phone Bag Out of Jean Pockets
In this tutorial, I’m going to show you how to make a cell phone bag. This DIY cell phone bag made from a jean pocket is both unique and a fun way to recycle old denim.
If you’ve been looking for a fun beginner-friendly project you can make by hand or with a sewing machine, you’re in the right place! Let’s get started.
Tools and materials:
- Old denim
- Ruler
- Fabric marker/chalk
- Scissors
- Iron
- Shoelace
- Sewing machine or sewing materials
- Optional: hot glue
1. Mark where to cut
Lay your phone down on the jean pocket that you intend to use and use a ruler to draw a straight line along the length and width of the bag you want.
2. Cut
Cut along the line you just made. You only need the top layer of fabric for this, so feel free to discard the back.
3. Mark where to cut on the other side
The back we’re going to use is actually the front of the other side of the jeans. Use the fabric piece you just cut out as a template to mark where to cut on the other side.
Instead of marking the side of the ruler closest to the fabric as you did with the bottom of the pocket, instead, use the other side of the ruler to draw the line.
4. Cut
Cut out the other side of the jeans.
5. Sew
Place the two pieces so they’re right side facing and sew the edges and the bottom together.
6. Iron
Iron to get out any wrinkles and imperfections.
7. Add a strap
Place both ends of a shoelace on the sides of the DIY phone case and sew or glue it together.
