How to Make Drop Earrings 2 Easy Ways: DIY Tassel & Chain Earrings
In this tutorial, I will be showing you how to make gorgeous drop earrings. One pair will be tassel earrings and the other pair will be chain earrings. These DIY earrings are absolutely stunning and surprisingly easy to make!
Tools and materials:
- Jump rings
- Earring hooks
- Bracelet or necklace
- Thread
- Credit card
- Scissors
- Pliers
How to make long chain earrings
1. Prep the necklace or bracelet
Remove the clasp from your necklace or bracelet using a pair of pliers.
I am using a necklace I got from the thrift store.
2. Cut the necklace
Cut the necklace in half using the pliers, making sure that both sides are the same length.
You can make them as long or as short as you like.
3. Add the earring hook
Pry open the jump ring on the bottom of the earring hoop and loop it through the hook on your necklace or bracelet.
There you have it! That’s really all there is to it.
How to make tassel earrings
1. Prepare the thread
Wrap the thread around the length of the credit card until you have a thick piece.
The credit card is to make sure you have an even length for the tassel.
2. Add the jump ring
Pry open a jump ring with pliers and slide it underneath your thread still wrapped around the credit card.
3. Add the earring hook
Link in the earring hook to the jump ring.
4. Cut the thread
Cut off the thread at the other end of the credit card.
Do this carefully and make sure to keep the piece together because we still need to tie it off and make sure the threads stay in place.
5. Secure the tassel
Tie off the tassel with a piece of thread a little bit down from the top of the earring.
6. Add some color
For some extra color, you can add a different thread over that first tie and then tie it in a knot and trim off the excess edges.
