Make a sashiko denim bag, use up scraps of denim to make a unique one off upcycled bag. Step by step tutorial for denim embroidered bag. The leather handles give a professional finish to your hand stitched bag.
The idea for this bag has been gradually growing until the moment came to make it!! I started with offcuts from denim trousers and some scrpas of quilting cotton, the denim pieces were left over from making a denim quilt.
I laid out the various materials to create a patchwork of fabrics large enough to create two sides of the bag.
Using a running stitch I joined the fabric pieces together. I created circular running stitched for the cotton scraps, and horizontal stitching across the body of the bag. The colour choice of threads and the direction of stitching will impact the finished result.
The bag was lined with a former duvet cover with slip pockets. Leather handles were attached with cap rivets, giving the bag a professional finish. For more details check out the full tutorial on the blog.

Great way to recycle denim or any fabric. I am not a seamstress but my cousin always tells me what she’s made and how she’s made it. She takes the pockets and the waistband and uses those on her bags and they are beautiful. What a gift you have!
Beautiful idea & work. ♥️
