5 Natural Ways to Wash Hair Without Shampoo

In this tutorial, I'm sharing five natural ways to wash hair without shampoo.
Did you know most shampoos strip away your hair’s natural oils? The chemicals in shampoo can’t differentiate between built-up oils and the oils that naturally exist in your hair and, as such, will strip away both without providing any added protection or other benefits.
Each recipe I'm sharing here is going to include ingredients that support the health of your hair while also functioning as a natural hair wash. Let’s get started!

1. Soap-free hair cleanser
This treats hair shedding and loss, and promotes a healthy scalp.
Start with 1 tbsp of green tea or 4-5 hibiscus flowers.
Add ½ cup of hot water and steep for 20 minutes.
Extract ¼ cup of aloe vera gel from the leaf and set it aside in a container.
After the tea is finished steeping, pour it over the aloe vera.
Blend the mixture together.
To use, pour on wet hair and massage it in. Leave it on for 2-3 mins and rinse off.
2. Protein hair cleanser
This DIY natural shampoo contains natural cleansers, boosts hair growth, strengthens hair follicles, and can treat dry, frizzy hair.
Start with 1 tbsp of chickpea flour.
Add 2 tsp of fenugreek powder.
Add 1 tsp flaxseed powder.
Add hot water or hot green tea to form a thick liquid.
Add ½ tsp hair oil (optional).
Add 1 tbsp Castile soap or natural baby wash (if you have oily hair). Mix everything really well or blend it using a blender for a smoother consistency.
To use, gently massage on wet hair for a few minutes and rinse it off.
3. Shampoo bar
This frozen shampoo bar promotes a healthy scalp and thicker hair growth.
Start with a handful of curry or rosemary leaves
Add hot water and let it soak overnight.
Strain to create ¼ cup curry or rosemary leaf water.
Add ¼ cup of aloe vera gel.
Add ¼ cup Castile soap or natural baby wash
Mix well.
Pour the mixture into an ice tray and let it freeze.
Once frozen, store the cubes in a container in the freezer.
To use, rub a cube between your hands to create a lather. Massage it into the scalp and rinse off.
4. Hair wash powder
This hair wash powder contains natural cleansers and ingredients that promote a healthy scalp, treat hair loss and shedding, and result in thicker hair growth and smooth, shiny hair.
Start with 3 tbsp of soapnut powder or shikakai powder.
Add 2 tbsp of fenugreek powder.
Add 2 tbsp of hibiscus powder.
Add 1 tbsp of amla powder.
Mix well.
To prepare for use, add 2-3 tbsp of the powder and hot water or hot green tea to form a thick liquid.
As an optional step, you can add 1 tbsp of Castile soap or natural baby wash if you have oily hair or ½ tsp of hair oil for dry, frizzy hair.
To use, gently massage on wet hair. Leave it on for 5 mins and rinse it off.
5. Herbal hair wash
This herbal hair wash contains natural cleansers to promote a healthy scalp, treat hair loss and shedding, boost and promote thicker hair growth, and can even darken dull, faded hair.
Start with 4-5 soapnuts.
Crush/crack open the soapnuts.
Add 6-8 shikakai pods.
Add 6-8 dried amla.
Add 1 tbsp fenugreek seeds.
Add 4 cups of water, mix, and soak overnight.
Pour everything into a saucepan and simmer on low for 10 minutes.
Cover and let it cool down.
Strain the shampoo using a cheesecloth.
Pour the leftover shampoo into an ice cube tray. Thaw 2-3 cubes before use.
To use, gently massage the shampoo on wet hair. Leave it on for 2-3 minutes and rinse it off.
