Are you embarrassed to wear your favorite pair of jeans because it’s got a hole in the thigh or crotch? Even if you don’t have voluptuous thighs, the thigh area is a high stress area where the denim rubs together. This can cause the fabric on your favorite jeans to split, break, or thin out in that area.

Don’t get rid of your jeans. I’ll show you how to fix thigh holes in jeans easily and quickly. If you’re like me and would rather be mending holes in jeans than giving them away or throwing them out, come along while I show you how to fix holes in jeans' inner thighs.

Tools and materials:

  • Jeans
  • Iron on denim patches
  • Iron
  • Needle and thread (optional)
  • Sewing machine (optional
Jeans belt loops

If you want to learn how to fix belt loops where the jeans fabric has thinned out or split, watch my tutorial: " How to fix torn belt loops on jean".

Damaged jeans

Step 1. Assess the damage

First, check the weakened areas on the side that everyone sees (right side).

Hole in jeans

Turn your jeans inside out. Assess the damage from the inside.

Denim patch

Step 2. Fix the problem

The patch needs to color match the jeans as close as possible.

Denim patch on jeans hole

Keep your jeans inside out. Lay the patch on the hole or weakened area, making sure it is large enough to cover it as well as a bit more all around. If your hole is very small, you can cut the patch as needed.

Ironing the patch

Iron the patch so the sticky side is down on the fabric. Do several passes of the iron, especially at the edges to make sure they stick.

If you like, you can finish right here.

Sewing patch in place

If you’re like me and you want extra security right at the crotch area, you can either sew by hand or use a sewing machine to securely sew the patch in place.

Doodle sewing technique

I like to use what I call “doodle sewing” where I run the machine in several directions. While it may not look super perfect, it gets the job done.

Only the most intimate of companions would ever be near that area to notice any sort of doodle stitching and they love ya already. In any case, this area is almost always concealed.

Mended jeans

I hope I showed you how to mend jeans and how to fix holes in jeans' inner thighs. Please let me know in the comments if this technique helped you save your favorite pair of jeans.

Great idea! I hate when a comfortable pair of jeans get worn through on the inner thigh or at the bottom of the zipper at the crotch area. 🤦🏼‍♀️
