Sew Stella McCartney Inspired High-Waist Pants With This Easy Tutorial
There's nothing like a comfy pair of high- waist pants and top. I was looking for inspiration and came across the Stella McCartney high-waist pants, and I had to give it a try. I love that the high waistband can either be folded or worn high. It's so versatile and sleek, and I'd like to share with you this easy high-waist pants tutorial. Today we are going to get right into the DIY high-waist pants but, if you'd like to see how I made the corresponding turtleneck top, you can head right over here. Let's get started!
Tools and materials:
- 3 yards of stretch knit fabric
- Measuring tape
- Pins
- Sewing machine
- Scissors
- Matching thread
- Pants that fit
Cut the pants
Grab your favorite pair of wide-legged pants, fold it, and place it on the fold of your fabric. If your pants are not as wide as you'd like them to be, trace a wider section along the bottom. The trousers I'm using are not stretchy, so I am cutting the pants without a seam allowance around the crotch area. After that, I add a 2x2 seam allowance as I move away from the crotch area. Keep this in mind when cutting your own fabric.
As you see, I cut right close to the crotch lines as possible, and now I've added a seam allowance from the start of the legs.
Now use the first cut-out piece to cut the second piece by laying the first piece on top of your fabric. This is how your pant leg should look.
Sew the crotch area
Pin the crotch area and sew to secure. Do this on both pants pieces.
Sew the two pant pieces
Now, it's time to sew the two pant pieces together. Place them on top of each other, right sides facing. Make sure the fabric is evenly distributed and pin the side seams and inner leg seams.
Sew all the pinned areas using a zigzag stitch.
Make the waistband
Now, measure the waist, multiply the number by 2, and then subtract five.
Cut a piece of fabric with your corresponding measurement ( on fold) and add a ¼ inch seam allowance. My personalized measurement was 18 inches in length.
Fold the piece right sides together, pin, and sew with a zigzag stitch.
Now, fold the waistband in half by matching the seams and then flipping it inside out.
Attach the waistband
Attach the folded waistband to the pants. Insert the waistband through the pants so that the raw edges of both pieces touch. Be sure to match the side seams.
Pin all around and sew with a zigzag stitch.
This is how it should look. Lastly, hem the bottom of your trousers, and you're done!
These Stella McCartney high-waisted pants sure look elegant and sleek. It's comfortable too and makes for a great item to wear when you need to feel comfy when running errands on a day-to-day basis. I absolutely love this look, and I'm so happy I got to share this tutorial with you. Good luck!
