What Order Should You Apply Your PM Skincare Routine In?
In this PM skincare routine, we’re going to show you the order of application you should be applying to your 8-10 step skincare routine, so you can wake up feeling refreshed and more hydrated.
Of course you don't have to have 8-10 steps in your routine! But this tutorial will help you know what order to apply everything you do use. Let's get into it.
Tools and materials:
- Oil cleanser
- Gentle cleanser
- Targeted serums
- Eye cream (optional)
- Spot treatments
- Moisturizer
- Retinol
- Face oil
- Lip moisturizer
1. Double cleanse
No matter how tired you are, always wash your face at night. You can skip your morning skincare routine but never skip your night-time routine.
You should be doing a double cleanse to get all of the makeup, SPF, gunk, and the rest of the day’s impurities out of your skin.
Your first cleanser should be oil-based to remove makeup. Your second cleanser should be gentle with no active ingredients to remove everything missed.
2. Apply serums
It’s important to put your serum on right after you wash your face.
Serums have concentrated active ingredients that get absorbed into your skin well when it’s clean.
Serums are used to treat discoloration, dullness, and fine lines.
3. Apply eye cream
A lot of people have been going against eye creams lately because realistically, you can use the rest of your skincare under your eyes.
After all, it’s still your skin! If you want to use eye cream for your dark circles, this is the time to use it but you can skip it altogether.
4. Do spot treatments
If you’re acne-prone, this is where your acne treatment comes in.
I have oily acne-prone skin, so I do spot treatments on my very visible pimples.
5. Moisturize
If you have oily or dry skin, this is where your targeted moisturizer comes in. For oily skin, opt for water-based moisturizer.
6. Apply retinol
Retinol is important because it improves the collagen in your skin over time.
Your skin can be really sensitive to retinol if you’re trying it for the first time, so don’t use it every day.
Start by using it three times a week until your skin builds up a tolerance to retinol and retinoids.
Retinoids are one of the only products scientifically proven to reduce fine lines.
7. Apply face oil
Face oils act like a barrier for your skin and it’s going to allow all of the products you’ve put on to soak in your skin while you’re sleeping.
It hydrates your skin and it’ll continue to work in the morning, making it a great closer product.
8. Hydrate your lips
Don’t forget to moisturize and hydrate your lips to prevent early fine lines.

Some of these tips can even carry over to both your AM and PM skincare routine.

Personally, I've found that following a consistent routine like this has made a noticeable difference in my skin's hydration and overall appearance. And even if I don't have 8-10 steps, knowing the correct sequence ensures that each product can work its magic effectively.
