Denim and Lace Shorts DIY

I decided these shorts had seen better days and needed a little something extra. So today I’m going to show you how to make lace shorts out of an old pair of denim cutoffs. It’s really quick and simple, and I think it’s a really cute way to change up an otherwise unremarkable article of clothing. Keep reading to see the transformation.
Tools and materials:
- Jean shorts
- Lace fabric
- Ruler
- French curve
- Fabric chalk
- Scissors
- Pins
- Sewing machine
Measure and mark
From the bottom of the front pocket, I measured 8 centimeters (3 inches) down the side seam and marked that spot.
On the back of the shorts, I measured 10 centimeters (4 inches) from the side seam, and marked that point, as well.
On the front of the shorts, I made a vertical line from the top of the front pocket to the hem of the shorts.
Then, using my french curve, I connected the three points I marked on the front, side, and back of the shorts, creating the shape of the cutout.
Cut
I cut out the shape and used it as a guide on the second side of the shorts to create a second, symmetric cutout.
Cut the lace
Using the cutout as a template, I cut a piece of lace, leaving a ½-inch seam allowance around the edges.
Fold, pin, and sew
I folded the edges of the lace in by ½ an inch, pinned it to the shorts, and sewed it in place.
And that’s it!
I hope you liked this cute little fix. How would you style these lace insert shorts?
Enjoyed the project?
