Do you want to turn thrifted jeans into the trendiest thing everyone is wearing?

I’m going to show you how to make a denim maxi skirt. Stay on trend without breaking the bank.

Tools and materials:

  • Old jeans or pants
  • Seam ripper
  • Sewing machine
  • Scissors
  • Pins
Opening the seams

1. Open the seams

Use a seam ripper and open the seams of the inside of the pant legs.

This will allow you to transform the pant legs into a skirt. At the front, open the seams until you reach the bottom of the zipper.

Opening seams

Cut or rip open the seams of the rear of the pants up to the waistline.

Pinning

2. Pin and sew

Lay the pants flat and place the front pant leg with the flap over the other leg. Pin it in place.

Pinning

Now turn the pants inside out, so the right sides are facing inwards.

Instead of laying the pants flat with the waist seams at the side, lay them flat with the waist in the center. This will allow you to pin together the back panels.

You will need to pin it so you are eliminating the extra piece of the pattern that would go inward to create the pant leg.

To do this simply place your pins going straight down the back with a slight curve for your backside.

Sewing

3. Sew

Sew the front pieces together, following the shape of the fabric until you reach the place where the fabric separates into a slit.

Then sew the back sections together. Cut off any extra fabric.
