Learn How to Sew a Gorgeous Sequin Mini Skirt
In just a few simple and easy steps I was able to create the most gorgeous mini sequin skirt. This skirt has become one of my absolute favorite pieces! I love dressing this skirt up and wearing it out on the town. If you want to learn the ins and outs of making this beautiful piece, my tutorial is what you have been looking for! This skirt is so easy to make and the best part is, it doesn’t require a pattern. Follow my step-by-step guide and glam up your wardrobe with this sequin skirt.
Tools and materials:
- Skirt
- Sequin fabric
- Lining fabric
- Thread
- Pins
- Measuring tape
- Scissors
- Marker
- Zipper
To create this gorgeous skirt, fold your fabric over twice so that you have four layers of fabric. Then fold the skirt over and place it on your fabric. Use a measuring tape to mark a 1-inch seam allowance on your fabric.
Once you have traced the skirt onto your fabric, you can begin to cut, following your tracing as a guideline.
Next, use those fabric pieces to cut out identical pieces for the lining.
In order to create a full front piece, place two pieces, right sides together, and sew along the center seam. Repeat this step to create the full back piece.
Now it’s time to attach the front and back pieces together. Place the front piece over the back piece, right sides together, and sew down one side of the skirt. Leave the other side open because that’s where the zipper will go. Make sure to repeat this for your lining fabric.
This skirt is coming together so fast! To attach the lining, Place it over the sequin fabric, and pin along the waist. Once all your pins are in, sew along the waist.
To attach the zipper to this stunning skirt, open it up and pin one side along the side of the skirt. Hop over to your sewing machine to sew the zipper on.
Flip your lining fabric over and pin it along the side so that it covers the zipper. This will ensure your skirt has a totally professional finish.
Finish off the raw edges of the fabric and lining by placing the main fabric right sides together and the lining right sides together. Sew the edges together and then cut off the excess zipper.
Finally, all that’s left to do is hem the skirt. There are a few different options for hemming. I chose to fold the main fabric and the lining by half an inch and then pin them together.
Hand sew an invisible stitch at the bottom of your skirt to get the perfect, professional finish for this amazing piece.
I absolutely adore this skirt! How would you style this piece? Let me know in the comments below!
