DIY Red Hearts Ruffle Sweater Using McCall’s 7688

Happy Valentine’s Day Loves!! In the spirit of the day of Love, I bring to you my DIY red hearts ruffle sweater I made using McCall’s 7688. I’ve never made a sweater before and this pattern was perfect for my first time. This was definately one of my easiest recent makes.

Pattern Illustration M7688

I’ve had my eye on McCall’s 7688 since it came out last year. If you remember, it was part of my You can read all about it HERE. I’m still in love with view E, but I chose to make view B for this project.

This photoshoot was so much fun. I was told to get as many heart ballons as I could buy and that I did. I don’t think I’ve ever used props before during a photoshoot. I would like to thank my photographer Terrence. You can find him on Istagram at @bigguystylus.

Pattern Review

Pattern Description:

Misses’ Knit Tops and Dresses

Pattern Sizing:

XS-XXL I made a size Large view B

Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it?

Yes, it looked exactly like it.

Were the instructions easy to follow?

The instructions were super easy to follow. If you’re looking for something easy to make, this is the pattern you want.

What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern?

I LOVE the ruffles. This is why I chose to make this version. They are so full and give the sweater a nice touch.

Fabric Used:

White with red hearts sweater knit. Unfortunately, this fabric was gifted to me so I don’t know where it was purchased.

Pattern alterations or any design changes you made:

I didn’t make any pattern alterations to this pattern. I did choose to use red knit fabric for the waist and neckband to give it a little bit of contrast. I wanted to also use red for the cuffs but I forgot and didn’t realize until after I was finished.

Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others?

Yes, definately! I really enjoyed this pattern. I still want to make view E which is the dress. It’s super cute.

Conclusion:

In conclusion, I say YES to this pattern. If you’re looking to get your sewjo back, then this is the pattern for you. I would suggest you size down when making this pattern. Based on my body measurements, I fall in between two sizes. I thought about grading the pattern at the waist and decided not to because I wanted to have a more fitted waistband. This pattern has a lot of ease and I will make the smaller size the next time I make this pattern.

Hope you enjoy your V day!

Love,

Johanna
