Why I Stick My Beauty Blenders IN THE MICROWAVE
Hello, beauty lovers! Today, we're diving into the realm of cleaning week-old makeup sponges.
This makeup sponge cleaning hack makes the process simple. So, let's get into it.
Tools and materials:
- Makeup sponges
- Microwavable bowl
- Facial cleanser or shampoo
- Water
- Makeup brush cleanser
1. Transfer your sponges to a bowl
Gather all your well-loved but slightly stained makeup sponges, and transfer them to a microwavable bowl.
Oh, and don't forget your powder puffs!
2. Cover with a cleanser
Add your favorite facial cleanser to the bowl. Even shampoo works wonders here.
Make sure to add enough to create a gentle cleaning solution.
3. Fill the bowl with water and submerge the sponges
Fill the bowl with water, making sure the sponges are fully submerged.
Sponges tend to absorb water, so don't be shy with the liquid.
4. Microwave
Pop the bowl into the microwave for about a minute or two. I'm starting with a minute, and I'll adjust as needed. T
he heat helps to break down the makeup residue and bacteria lingering in those sponges.
5. Squeeze the sponges
Carefully remove the bowl from the microwave. Gently squeeze the sponges while they're submerged in the warm solution.
You'll notice the water changing color as it flushes out the trapped makeup.
6. Repeat step 4-5
You might need to repeat the microwave and squeezing process a couple of times to ensure your sponges are squeaky clean.
7. Wash once more with a brush cleanser
If you have makeup brush cleanser on hand, pour some into another bowl.
Take each sponge and clean it in the solution, making sure to work the cleanser through the material.

I wash mine with a few drops of DAWN.
I also use Dawn and rinse really well.
