Turn an Old Pair of Shorts Into a Cute Skirt in Just Three Steps!
Do you have an old pair of shorts just screaming for a makeover? This refashion project is just what you need! I’ll show you how to take a pair of old, worn-out shorts and turn them into a cute skirt in just three steps! This project only takes a few minutes and you’ll end up with an addition to your wardrobe unique to you. Follow my step-by-step tutorial below to get started making your own DIY skirt from shorts!
Tools and Materials:
- Shorts
- Scissors
- Ruler
- Chalk
- Sewing machine
- Pins
Cut
Start by turning the shorts inside out and cutting out the inseam.
Try to remove as little fabric as possible.
Pin and Sew
Lay the shorts flat with the cut sides on either side. Add one pin to the bottom to make sure that nothing moves around too much.
Then using a ruler, mark from the edge of the bottom of the shorts at an angle to the top of the crotch. Make sure that it’s straight and gets rid of the parts that form the crotch of the shorts. This will allow the skirt to lie flat when you wear it.
Pin along this line and then sew along it as well. Make sure that the hem at the bottom matches up.
Trim
Trim off any excess fabric along the seam you just made.
Wasn’t that quick and easy? This skirt is simple and goes well with so many of my outfits. How have you refashioned your clothes? Let me know in the comments below!
