DIY Knotted Headband [Super Quick Tutorial]

I’ve been wanting to make a diy knotted headband for ages! This week I finally sat down with some of my knit scraps and made some. Today I’m sharing how you can make a diy knotted headband too.

I love a good headband, especially for bad hair-days and for keeping my hair out of my face at the gym. These are a great project because they are simple, quick, and they use up scraps. Anyone can make these! Don’t be intimidated by sewing with knits. Get yourself a ballpoint needle for sewing with knits and be sure to use a zig-zag stitch to allow for some stretch and you’ll be fine.

To make a knotted headband you will need:

  • two 31 inch X 3 inch pieces of knit fabric
  • a ballpoint needle
  • coordinating thread
  • a rotary cutting set or scissors
  • a sewing machine (I use a Brother SE400)

Tutorial

Step 1: Wash, dry, and iron your fabric. If you’re using scraps then you’ve already done this so woot woot! Then cut out 2 rectangles that measure 31 inches X 3 inches.

Step 2: Fold each rectangle in half. Then cut each end into a point.

Step 3: Lay down one of the pieces of fabric with the right side up. Then lay the second piece down on top, with the right side down. Pin the two pieces together.

Step 4: Sew almost all the way around the edges, sewing 1/2 inch from the edge. Stop about 4 inches from where you began.

Step 5: Trim or notch around the pointy ends. Use the opening that you left unsewn to turn the headband right side out. Press it flat.

Step 6: Sew the opening closed. Wrap the headband around your head and then tie.

I always feel so awkward when trying to shoot clothes or accessories that I make but I want let you see how things look so here are some “modeling” shots I took for you.
