Fold and mark

To sew a half-circle skirt, begin by folding your fabric in half. From one of the corners on the folded edge, measure out the desired length of your skirt, and mark a quarter circle of that length.

Cut

Cut along the line you marked.

Measure, mark, and cut

To determine the size for the waist opening, add two inches to your waist measurement, and then divide that number by two. Mark another quarter-circle of that length from the corner, and then cut along the marked line.

Make a waistband

Cut a strip of fabric 2 inches wide, and about the same length as the waistline of your skirt. Better to make it a little longer, and then cut off the excess fabric later.

Pin and sew

Fold the skirt in half, right sides facing, and pin the side edges together. Leave a space at the top of the seam to insert a zipper.

Insert the zipper

Fold and pin the raw edges along the opening for the zipper.

Pin the zipper in place, and sew it down. Keep the zipper open while sewing.

Hem the bottom

Your DIY half-circle skirt is nearly complete! All you have left to do is hem the bottom. To do so, fold the bottom edge twice inwards, and pin it down. Then sew all around the bottom edge of the skirt.

And here is the final result.
