Upcycle Alert - Cut Patch Denim Jeans!
So let's get something straight, we all own more than three pairs of denim, regardless of denim jeans are a staple part of your closet and style or not. Some may actually have too many, and if that's the case, I'm going to show you how to make them into patch denim jeans. Yup, that's right! This amazing upcycle tutorial shows you how to make patch denim jeans- the easy and simple way.
Tools and materials:
- 3 pairs of old jeans
- Scissors
- Pencil
- Sewing machine
Remove the elastic
Pick your main pair of jeans that you'd like to make patch denim jeans from. Mine had elastic at the bottom, so I cut them off. If yours don't- then skip this step. I also want a raw, distressed hem, so this one's perfect for me.
Draw the patches
With a pencil, roughly draw the patches on your jeans. Let your creative juices flow here! This is literally your piece of art.
Cut the exact shapes on the other jeans
Now, this part can be a little tricky, so follow it closely. You have the patches drawn out; now, you need to transfer the exact shape on the other jeans. With a sharp pair of scissors, cut out each shape and let it hang loose on the seam.
TIP-
Be cautious! Don't cut through both layers of the pants; only the top layer is what you need.
Cut open the other jeans and cut the shape from the original jeans to the other pair you'll cut the patches from. So, fold the semi-detached shape onto the jeans, and cut around the shape. Add a little extra seam allowance for this process.
Repeat this process for all the patches, and lay them out like a puzzle.
Now, cut the semi-detached pieces off the actual pants.
Lay your patches out on the area and sew the patches together before sewing them onto the leg of the main denim jeans. Next, sew around the whole area so that the patchwork piece is sewn onto the jeans leg.
TIP-
Remember to do this right sides facing
Repeat the same on the other leg
Here's the outcome! It's such a fun, inspirational project, and I hope you can take this inspiration and translate it into your own masterpiece! Sew patch denim jeans easily now that you have the know-how! Happy patching!
